Our Mission

Our mission is to revolutionise clinical decision-making by providing objective and accurate support in diagnosis, analysis and treatment of Movement Disorders and its related musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.

Founded in 2015, Kinetikos is currently supporting rehabilitation clinics, orthopaedic hospitals and insurers in Europe and America through a web-based clinical decision-making and analysis platform. It combines artificial intelligence with accurate biomechanical models to guide clinicians. The benefits are both higher accuracy-of and shorter time-to decision resulting in cost-effective services.

The Team

We have over two decades of combined experience in Sales, Business Strategy, Engineering musculoskeletal models and simulation software and applying artificial intelligence to clinical research in mobility disorders.

Our awarded team's scientific activity totals more than 75 presentations in National and International conferences, more than 50 published peer-reviewed papers among conferences proceedings and international journals, and an active collaboration as manuscript reviewers in the some of the main clinical and biomechanics journals (e.g., Journal of Biomechanics).

Ricardo Matias

Founder, Head of Research and Innovation

PhD in Human Kinetics (University of Lisbon, Portugal), Postdoc in Machine Learning in Biomechanics (University of Lisbon, Portugal), BSc (Honors) degree in Physiotherapy (Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, Portugal).

For the last decade I have been using biomechanics and machine learning to help unveil what produces healthy and pathological movements. Through Kinetikos we will make these tools available for clinicians.

Following an initial entrepreneur experience, I spent almost two decades in ICT multinational organisations, driving sales and growth, something I’m really passionate about.

MSc in Physiotherapy in Musculoskeletal Disorders (Health School, Polythecnic Institute of Setúbal, Portugal), BSc in Physiotherapy (Health School of Alcoitão, Portugal).

I am a physiotherapist with more than 10 years of experience in movement disorders. Curious by nature and a strong defender of evidence-based practice, in Kinetikos I can contribute to develop the ideal tools for the best and most effective clinical practice.

Jessy Lauer


PhD in Biomechanics (University of Porto - Portugal & University of Savoie Mont Blanc de Chambéry - France); MSc in Biomechanics: Exercise, Sport, Health, Handicap (University of Savoie Mont Blanc, France); BSc in Human Movement Science (University of Savoie Mont Blanc, France).

Despite my graduation in Exercise, Sport and Health, it was in the development of the world-first numerical tools to evaluate the load on the musculoskeletal system that I decided to focus my work, contributing to innovation in this area and the development in rehabilitation.

Contributing to the development in rehabilitation is what moves me, especially if I feel that I can improve someone’s life. A lot can be done and it is through Kinetikos that I want to make it happen.

I see as a goal to define continuous process improvements, building consensus, recognizing and accelerating my strengths and conquer any obstacles. Healthcare and biomechanics are my passions, in particular the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders and my main objective is to contribute to improve peoples’ health and quality of life. mKinetikos was one of our awarded projects at the INNOLABS 1st Open Call for innovative projects in personalized healthcare. mKinetikos is a mobile app that aims to prevent the most common cause of injury among elderly: the falls. It collects, processes and stores individual’s multidimensional information, including clinical survey and movement-related data collected through elderly adaptive interfaces and clear instructed activities. It delivers a real-time risk of fall assessment and proposes a home-based, subject-centred exercise program, using the latest scientific evidence and data science algorithms.


Kinetikos won the European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre (ESA BIC) call for innovative solutions that use space technologies or systems in a non-space environment with PDtraKer. This mobile app takes advantage of Europe’s GNSS Galileo space technology to map Lifespace in people with Parkinson’s Disease, both indoor and outdoor. It fills the gap between infrequent clinical examinations that do not capture the day-to-day variations of the illness and providing a continuum objective monitoring and allows clinicians to access actionable data in real time.


iWalkU project was one of the awarded projects in the Cross4Health 1st Open Call for cross sectoral teams, addressing one of the C4H identified Challenges. iWalkU project was developed in collaboration with the Austrian Space Forum and FisioManual rehabilitation clinic by combining aerospace and biotechnologies. It provides a web-based platform connected to a unique easy-to-use exoskeleton that allows a safe, remote and effective healthcare to mobility impaired individuals.
